Sanitation Complaints Rise as Inspectors Shut Down Three Central Florida Restaurants

Three Central Florida restaurants received emergency orders to shut down in the week of May 1-7, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Over 30 complaints have been lodged over the last month about restaurants in the Central Florida area.

Moghul Indian Cuisine at 401 N. Semoran Blvd. in Winter Park shut down on May 3. The restaurant closed the week before for similar issues. The restaurant was hit with 17 violations, seven labeled high priority.

Many of the infractions went beyond simply serving food out of code or out date and included live roaches, with one found near the tandoori oven and one crawling out of a paper towel dispenser. Roach droppings were found in several other parts of the restaurant as well. The restaurant was also operating with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license.
