Winter Park Commission Race Takes Shape
The Winter Park commission race is taking shape with the addition of several candidates. Commissioner Carolyn Cooper (seat 3) is termed out, leaving a vacancy. So far, practicing attorney Kristopher Cruzada and business owner Anjali Vaya have joined the race for Cooper's seat.
Todd Weaver is the incumbent for Commission Seat 4. Although Weaver does not yet have a challenger, most expect one to appear at some point.
Many in the community voiced concern in the past year over attempted tax rate hikes by the commission. In addition, some concerned residents have pointed to the commission's stance on the Orange Avenue Overlay and the now sidelined Henderson Hotel project as an attack on progress.
Commissioners were widely criticized last year for personal attacks on community members and local organizations as well as their focus on issues such as back yard chicken permits, an effort many local residents widely felt to be out of place during an international pandemic.
