Central Florida's Michael Waltz Lambastes Biden at GOP House Veterans Conference
Central Florida Congressman and Green Beret Michael Waltz laid into President Joe Biden this morning at a House GOP veterans conference led by Majority Whip Steve Scalise.
The Congressman outlined the sacrafices made over the past two decades and the life the people of Afghanistan will face under the Taliban. Moreover, Waltz also described the possibility that Americans stranded in Afghanistan may face similar dangers.
"I served on the ground on multiple tours as a Green Beret in Afghanistan... I have a "night letter" from the Taliban... sent to a school principal. It told him to get out of town or he would be beheaded in 24 hours. Do you know what his crime was? Teaching girls...They didn't get him. But they got his brother and burned down the school. Chased his family into hiding. I leave it up as a reminder of the evil that we're dealing with... We are on the cusp of the biggest mass hostage crisis this country has ever seen... We cannot abandon Americans. We are going to leave Americans behind eleven days before the 20th anniversary of September 11th?"
Waltz and others also touched on the fact that the U.S. withdrawal failed to remove civilian and diplomatic personnel prior to military assets, leaving behind countless numbers of American-made weapons in the process:
"...you're consigning them to death like this school principal... Our local allies are being hunted down as we speak. The Taliban are going to armed to the teeth [with our own equipment]. When future American soldiers have to go back and take care of the problem and the incompetence of this administration, how many are going to die now because they're going to have to fight their way through our own damn equipment?"
The Congressman articulated that his office would continue to reach out in any way necessary to support those in jeopardy on the ground. Waltz currently represents Florida's 6th Congressional District.
