Orange County Approves New Commission District Boundaries

Orlando commissioners unanimously approved new district maps Tuesday with minimal requests for alterations to the boundaries. The board decided on a redistricting map that places most of Ocoee in District 2, represented by commissioner Christine Moore.

“This proposed extraction from District 4 into District 5 would not be for the greater good of the community; instead, [it is] a clear tactic to protect and benefit the officeholder not the voters,” said Fonseca, who previously worked as an aide to former District 3 commissioner Pete Clarke.

The committee began their work in September and held a dozen public meetings. Orange County’s population grew to more than 1.4 million in 2020 from 1.1 million in 2010, about a 25% jump. The committee began their work in September and held a dozen public meetings.

The August primary election and November general election will use the new maps.
