Packed Crowds at Bay Hill's Classic
Although two weeks have passed, memories of Florida's most outstanding golf tournament - perhaps of all times - continue to linger. Who could have predicted or desired a more spectacular finish to the Bay Hill Classic? Only those most devoted fans of Jack Nicklaus, who may regret that he failed to win the tournament, could sense any damper of enthusiasm.
Youthful Tom Kite was a thoroughly appropriate winner, and his youthful exuberance demonstrated a kind of symbolic tenor of the entire tournament. Curious that the bad weather placed a gloom over some rounds of the event. Yet even the bad weather turned into a silver lining because it necessitated an extra day's play - and a marvelous finish.
Some may regret Arnold Palmer was not among the final qualifiers. But he must take extreme satasfaction in this great golfing event. Certainly in the years ahead it will become even more dramatic and recognized throughout the nation as a premiere event.
Most of us in Soutwest Orange County did not hesistate in admitting our thrill and enthusiasm in having this really glorious occurence right in our own backyard.
