Sabatini, Dorworth, Brodeur Among Names Mentioned in FDLE's Greenberg Transcript
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) recently sent investigators to interview former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg about a 'ghost candidate' scheme involving the county's GOP (SCREC) chair and several of his colleagues. SCREC chair Ben Paris was convicted yesterday in court.
As part of his plea deal, Joel Greenberg, who currently faces a minimum of twelve years in prison for sex trafficking and stalking, agreed to comply with testimony on the matter. The interview details a lurid set of characters that, according to Greenberg, engaged in a variety of schemes that created a cesspool of political corruption.
In the transcipt, Greenberg states under oath that State Sen. Jason Brodeur likely knew of the plot to throw the election, and that State Rep. Anthony Sabatini may be involved in corrupt pay to play style activities as well.
Although some portions of the report remain redacted, the transcript paints a vivid enough picture to see where investigators may be headed next. Brodeur's opponent in the 2020 election has called for him to step down, although the State Senator denies any knowledge of the plot.
Paris will not serve jail time although will be on probation for 12 months and has been ordered to pay back the more than $40,000 investigators spent looking into the plot. He will also have to work 200 hours of community service. Iannotti and another alleged plotter have yet to stand trial.
