Special Report from Ukraine: Pravda Brewery Invites the World to “Brew for Ukraine”

LVIV, UKRAINE - Pravda Brewery in Lviv, Ukraine isn't the average beer company. When the war started, the thought of conflict seemed impossible for many residents in Ukraine and Lviv. But as Russian missiles began to rain down upon the country, a stark new reality set in.

Almost immediately, the government placed alcohol sale under a total ban. While certainly the most savvy of residents found ways to circumvent the restrictions, most kept to the governemnt's demand as part of what they saw as their patriotic duty. But the ban on sales prompted another response from the companies who made beer all across the country.

Instead of simply resigning to their homes, Pravda Brewery retrofitted their production facilities into a war machine, producing molotov cocktails, until recently.

It was just after 5am on 24th February when news of the Russian invasion reached the Pravda craft brewery in Lviv, in western Ukraine. “We had just begun a new brew that morning – so we decided to finish it not to waste the beer,” says the brewery’s Taras Maselko. “And then pretty much straight away we switched to making Molotov cocktails.”

Now with the approval of the government, the Pravda Brewery continues the fight, asking the world to join the fight and "Brew for Ukraine."

In a message to beer lovers worldwide, the company urged everyone supporting Ukraine to join in: "Hello fellow brewers! Join Pravda Brewery in the fight against Russia. We're inviting you brew a special worldwide collaboration, using our recipes and labels. Of course, the Putin recipe and label is included."
