In an age where government crack downs often deal a harder blow to unmasked citizens than rioters, one might expect Florida’s new anti-riot law to be embraced with equal vehemence. Despite scenes of nation-wide violence and rioting over the past two years, many still oppose the bill.
Judge Mark Walker, a Democratic appointed federal judge, upended one of governor Ron DeSantis’ legislative achievements Thursday by blocking enforcement of the antiriot law passed several months ago.
In a move some label judicial activism, walker sided with left-leaning groups such as dream defenders and the American Civil Liberties Union.
DeSantis remained unfazed and predicted a win in a higher court. The ACLU praised Judge Walker for his decision.
