Disruptors Quelled at Seminole GOP
Disruptors deemed out of order by the Seminole County Republican Party were removed by Longwood police last Thursday. The protesters did not adhere to meeting protocols in accordance with Roberts Rules.
The activists, who interrupted the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, sought to voice their opinions on procedural issues.
Although the protesters were given at least three opportunities to wait their turn during new business, Michael Johnson, the leader of the row, failed to align with the order of business. Johnson packed nearly much of the crowd with out of county activists, attempting to drown out the voices of local party members.
A parliamentarian from the Republican Party of Florida attended the meeting to properly oversee the committee's agenda. In addition to the state parliamentarian, an Osceola parliamentarian also stood at the ready to quell concerns over any procedural issues.
Johnson remains an enigmatic figure in Seminole County politics, and many now question the animus behind his disruptive behavior.
Although a large contingent of Johnson’s supporters arrived with him, most stood silent when given the opportunity to speak following his expulsion by police. Sources explained to the Local News that they believe a long shot congressional candidate fomented the protest in a power play, although that information cannot be fully verified.
The Local News reached out to the candidate and Johnson with no response.
