Brightline Bolsters Transportation System with Teslas and Shuttles
Brightline plans to restart its rail passenger service on Nov. 8 but also seeks to expand its reach further into other transportation industries including new door-to-door, ride-share services that provides electric shuttles, small electric buses and Teslas. The aim of the new transport systems is to save Floridians from a long, frustrating commute.
“Brightline+,” as the program is referred to, extends Brightline's reach beyond the rails and into the world of the open road. From the moment commuters depart their residences or offices to their train trips among South Florida’s Big Three cities — Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Miami, the new system seeks to meet “the long-standing gaps of the first and last mile.”
Brightline has made deals with six plus tech plus to provide apps, booking services, vehicles, drivers, software and station signage.
“I think it’s a very smart strategy,” said Andy Ganz, president and CEO of the High Speed Railroad Association in Washington, D.C. “Getting to and from the stations adds another level of complexity, so you have to think door-to-door.”
Passengers who enjoy burning up their own gas on the way to and from the station can still book and pay for parking at downtown garages near the Brightline stations through the company’s own app. A QR code on their boarding passes will allow them to enter and exit a garage.
Brightline's Orlando Internation Airport service is slated to begin within the next year.
