Rising Conservative Voice Melissa Woodford Fights Censorship
In addition to being one of the most charming young activists in Central Florida, Melissa Woodford has gained a reputation for her mettle. Though now a rising journalist, and the Central Florida marketing assistant for Liberty Counsel, Melissa Woodford's political career began in less amiable circumstances.
With a character sharpened by her experiences in college, Woodford's brief stint in the mainstream media quickly illuminated the bias and unfairness permeating the press and academia. In a recent interview, Woodford noted multiple occasions when both professors and bosses often encumbered her own opinions.
Woodford began her career at NPR news in Central Florida (WMFE) where she witnessed increasingly one sided coverage of President Trump. But it was during her time in college that Woodford's writing and views came under undue scrutiny.
The broadcast journalism major recounted on The Barry Farah Show one such example of censorship when Woodford wrote about women's health. Despite her own views on the subject, her professor limited the student to interpreting details of the subject from a left wing perspective.
"I think the media culture is not allowing for free speech," Woodford told Farah. "If you are someone who is a proponent of the truth, you'll want to hear the other side even if you disagree with it. People today are saying we can only hear one side of the issue, because that's the side they've chosen to believe, even if it is a lie." Her treatment in education mirrored her experience in journalism classes.
Woodford explained to Farah that her professors restricted her conservative viewpoints. Woodford, an evangelical Christian, also decried the dismantlement of freedom of religion at colleges across the US. "My professor once told the class, 'I want all of you to show initiative,' and pointing at me said, 'except for her.'"
In the interview, Woodford also extolled the gravity of the current crisis by highlighting some of Liberty Counsel's past crusades: "People like that have undergone tremendous persecution and I think we're seeing more and more of it."
The rising Gen-Z journalist also conveyed her concern about the lack of Christian morality in American society today. Her education in gradeschool instilled Woodford with Christian morality and family values which she derived form a homeschool education.
Although Woodford's dire warnings may seem foreboding, she remains hopeful that the greatness of the American spirit will prevail over the forces of decay and decline.
Prior to her time at Liberty Counsel, Woodford also served as a staffer for State Representatives Anthony Sabatini and Scott Plakon. The burgeoning conservative star also runs the Instagram account @ConservativeShoutout as well as a youtube channel.
