Merry Grinchmas? Florida HOA Threatens Family Over $100 Per Day Fines
A Florida homeowners association recently attacked a local family by threating $1,000 in fines for decking the halls too soon.
Michael Moffa of Westchase, a suburban Tampa neighborhood, hired a company to decorate the outside of his home on November 6 because that’s the only day there was an opening, he said in a recent interview.
He received a letter from the HOA informing him he was in violation of association rules and could be fined $100 a day, up to $1,000.
Moffa says he will not take the lights down.
“I can’t climb up on the roof myself,” he said.
He said he offered a compromise: To keep the lights turned off until closer to Christmas, but that the Westchase Community Association rejected that idea.
The association told the TV station that a neighbor complained about the lights, which led to the community manager investigating.
