Hurricane Nicole Heads Toward Florida
Nicole was still close to becoming a hurricane, late Wednesday afternoon, but there’s no change in the forecast the storm will reach that category before making landfall, possibly overnight.
At 4 p.m., Nicole was about 135 miles east of West Palm Beach, and the storm was moving to the west at 13 mph, with maximum sustained winds at 70 mph.
That’s a faster forward speed than the 10 mph Tuesday afternoon and evening, and tropical storm-force winds extend out 485 miles from the center, especially to the north of the center.
