Endorsement: Sarah Sprinkel Best Choice for Winter Park Mayor
With a personality as bright as her wardrobe, winter Park's first serious woman Mayoral candidate truly "Sprinkels" sunshine on the community. But behind her delightful personality lay someone even more dedicated to the betterment and success of the community. Sarah Sprinkel has made it her focus over the past several years to identify areas Winter Park in the most dire need and make them better. From something as small as public swimming pools to larger issues such as infrastructure upgrades and cultural heritage, Sprinkel efforts helped bring the community through dire times as commissioner and does so with family in mind. A lifetime educator, Sprinkel also served as a business consultant and enjoys spending time with a large family of her own.
Sprinkel and her husband George moved to Winter Park in 1958 and graduated from Winter Park high school in 1959. Since then, they've never wanted to live anywhere else. The couple got married in 1972 and spent the last 50 years together. The parents of three children, the Sprinkel's also have five grandchildren.
Sprinkel worked as a teacher for many years and retired from Orange County Public Schools after 33 years. She partnered with Disney as well to build and staff two large child development centers for cast members' children. In her spare time, Sprinkel also teaches at UCF as an adjunct professor.
Her plan as mayor will emphasize children and families as she "plans for people." We strongly endorse Sarah Sprinkel for Mayor of Winter Park, primarily due to three significant aspects of the race: first, Sprinkel contrasts with her opponent starkly.
Her opponent Phil Anderson recently perpetrated a sexist attack on a moderator at a Winter Park Mayoral debate. Everyone makes mistakes, but our leaders should be held to a higher standard. Second, Sarah Sprinkel pledged to keep taxes low and not raise the millage rate, unlike Anderson himself, a former commissioner.
The third reason we choose to endorse Sarah Sprinkel centers on Sprinkel potential future status as the first woman Mayor in Winter Park's history.
This historic achievement will pave the way for other women in the future and provides Winter Park a fresh perspective on families and children.
Whatever the race may hold for the March 9 election, we wish the best to the winner and Winter Park.
