Local Community Members Seek to Establish New College Park Historical Society

The College Park community in Orlando is seeing a historical society developing. There's been a College Park Neighborhood Association Historical Committee, but it's scope is limited. This effort is hoping to do much more. The meetings are on-line for now and just beginning.

There have been efforts to collect College Park history for decades. The area is a collection of developments and businesses stemming back to the 1800s. Citrus was the main focus in the beginning. Real estate is the main effort now. One of the earliest Publix opened on Edgewater Drive just north of the current location. That was one of three groceries that have been on Edgewater Drive in College Park. Albert's Drug Store was such a popular location that after it closed, a park a few block away was named after Mr. Albert. Carl Dann was one of the earlier builders.

His son lived off Par Avenue until his death last year. Astronaut John Young was raised and went to school in College Park. There's much more. College Park has a lot of history to explore.
