Young at Heart: 105th Birthday Party Celebrated at Hollerbach's in Sanford
You can "go to extremes with impossible schemes," the old song goes. Indeed, one local resident lived that out last weekend at Hollerbach's German restaurant for her 105th birthday party. Inez Fink moved to Florida 39 years ago from New York. She was born in 1916 during the First World War and the Presidency of Woodrow Wilson. Also born that year: Gregory Peck, Olivia de Havilland, Kirk Douglas and Betty Grable.
The top songs of 1916 were Pretty Baly (Billy Murray), I Sent My Wife to the Thousand Isles (Al Jolson), and Somewhere a Voice is Calling (John McCormack). "America" and "The Star Spangled Banner" ranked in the top ten as well. From being born in an era where most did not own cars to her later years watching man land on the moon, Fink witnessed incredible change and progress but still seems to have as much energy and vitality as ever, dancing and singing to the polka music of Hollerbach's Jimmy Horzen and Eckhard Wachsmuth.
Fink decided to celebrate her birthday at Hollerbach's in honor of her German heritage, one of her favorite spots after moving to the Orlando area 39 years ago. The centenarian enjoys the company of six grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.
She celebrated her 100th birthday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church where she regularly attends. She is also an avid fan of sports, including basketball, and regularly watches the Orlando Magic. No plans yet on where she will celebrate her 106th birthday, but you can bet it will be just as amusing and enjoyable as the last 105.
