Opinion: Southwest Needs CR 435-535 Connector
Anyone who has driven down Apopka Vineland Road near Disney realizes the need for a relief to congestion. But how many have heard that such a proposal was put forward just recently, at least informally by a former local mayor. Mayor Gary Bruhn says he spoke to officials at the county level about the need for a bypass project between County Road 535 and Apopka Vineland Road crossing over unused swampland.
However, he was told that this project would not be feasible because it benefited Windermere and not the community at large. Bruhn argues that the project would be a boon for everyone and lessen traffic problems for those living in both Dr. Phillips and Windermere.
The road would begin at the Grand Cypress Resort and extend through to Daryl Carter Parkway's end point near,Fenton. Bruhn states that he is not advocating for the development of the surrounding swampland but does believe the plan is necessary for a single road to improve conditions for all residents in the area. Wildlife activists argue that a disruption of the swamp would impact the ecosystems of the area. We feel that that enough green space would be preserved in the plan to fend off allegations of environmental disturbance. It is our hope that Mayor Demings considers the project as a potential contendor for county funds in the future.
This endeavor doesn't just provide benefits for one area of town but helps alieviate traffic concerns for all parties involved.
