Al Santos' Cheap Shot at War Hero Cory Mills a Disgrace

Al Santos' Cheap Shot at War Hero Cory Mills a Disgrace

Al Santos' honesty is about as close to zero as his polling numbers. His recent attack on war hero Cory Mills paints a picture of a desperate candidate seeking to take cheap shots at a man who's already had too many real shots fired at him serving his country.

Whether in the military or in private life, Cory Mills has served alongside brave Americans to protect freedom at every juncture of his life, including most recently in Afghanistan.

Let's examine the facts, starting with Santos' claims.

Santos complains that Mills put "in danger his crew and U.S. forces on the ground" in Afghanistan due to a purported violation of FAA guidleines. Regardless of the veracity of Santos' statement, he entirely misses the point.

When it comes to rescuing American civilians from Taliban terrorists, all options are on the table. Would Santos prefer to see Americans paraded through the street of Kabul simply for the sake of legalism?

The rescue conducted by Mills is well document and featured on national television.

Santos' service is to be applauded, but his unfounded, shallow attack on Mills' heroism is not and is a blemish on the values instilled in our servicemen and women.

Mills' career demonstrates the best in the American soldier.

Current GOP congressional hopeful Cory Mills thought he was leaving the military in 2003 as he carried his end of terminal service approached. Then came the Iraq war. Mills was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division at the time. Ever the patriot, he requested for an extension of service to curtail his discharge.
.
Mills felt so strongly about serving his country, he spent nearly 7 years in Iraq.
.
Mills also served approximately two years in Afghanistan and also served in the Kosovo campaign in 2000. The combat veteran most recently traveled to the front lines of Ukraine during the Russian invasion to provide information for USAID and the state department.
.
A Trump appointee, Mills served in the Pentagon as well, and continued his service outside government rescuing US residents in Afghanistan.
.
Al Santos' attack on a decorated war hero is shameful and not worthy of the office he seeks to attain. Mills deserves an apology for this defamatory and incendiary statement.
.
Update: Al Santos withdrew his statement following the publication of this story.
