Orlando Local News Editor Marshall Swanson-Polston recently announced plans to report from the Ukrainian war theater this month. While the duration of his stay remains uncertain, the conflict will not be Swanson-Polston's first time in a war zone. The veteran politico and media professional previously traveled to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon for research and philanthropic purposes.

Swanson established the Tabsir Fund as a special philanthropic arm of his enterprise beginning in 2014, providing aide to Christian refugees in Iraq. Subsequently, OLN's Editor returned to Iraq on four occasions for research ultimately submitted to the National Security Council and Members of Congress.

Although a distant haze for many in the Americas, the Ukraine War continues to draw opposition from around the world, including right here at home in the Central Florida community. The Ukrainian Society of Central Florida held their annual festival last year in Apopka, where community leaders such as Ukrainian American State Rep. Scott Plakon spoke in support of the Zelensky government.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine began February 21, 2022.
